KONY 2012,
Thanks for sharing!
I also did a post about Kony 2012 :)
I’m sooo happy to see a blog that I follow and love participate to this, you make my day!
awww <3
These are not my words but I agree.
To everyone who has watched/shared Kony 2012 today. It’s astounding to me that so many of you have been sucked into this just because of a well edited video and a few sob stories (most of which have NOTHING to do with the issue).
You’ve followed the crowd and shared it, complete with your own two cents on what you think the problem is, with zero understanding of what’s actually going on in Uganda. I’m not going to pretend like I’m some sort of expert, but with a little critical thinking and research I feel I’m pretty well placed to make a comment now.
You’re all saying “STOP KONY!” etc. when, in reality, Joseph Kony hasn’t been active for several years – nor have the Lord’s Resistance Army. In reality, Kony has been forced into hiding (not even in Uganda) and is currently of ill health, reportedly slowly starving to death and having to watch his back at every turn.
What could possibly be done to him if caught that would give him a more miserable life than that? He’s a rotten man and he’s suffering slowly and painfully.Invisible Children, the “non-profit charity” responsible for the video have actually been widely scrutinised and discredited for their work. They twist facts and last year spent just 32% ($8,676,614) of their total income in Africa.
Does that sound like charity to you? There’s no doubt that their hearts are in the right place trying to help the children abducted and forced into slavery, but their heads are in the entirely wrong place. Also, I think it’s disgusting the way the filmmaker uses his own child to try and get an emotional response from the audience – isn’t putting a stop to the exploitation of children what his ‘charity’ is all about?!Since 2004 the Ugandan government have achieved peace talks with rebels and retrieved thousands of these children without any Western help.
They are already actively doing what ‘Invisible Children’ say they’re going to do all on their own. They’ve been very public in admitting they do not want, or need, our help.
Next time take the time to learn about the issue rather than just believing the first viewpoint that’s thrust upon you (by someone equally clueless). That’s all. Essay over.
Have you read Christiane Amanpour’s interview on this viral KONY thing? It’s pretty interesting and very informative. There were other people interviewed too. I think I first read it through a link on CNN. I’d recommend it so you’re fully aware of the whole story (Here’s a hint…the KONY video in reality probably isn’t all that accurate. He hasn’t even been IN Uganda in several years).
